Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” (John 18:38, NASB95)
This is a legitimate question asked in an illegitmate way. What’s the problem with it?
The answer is simple. He had the Truth right in front of him. All he had to do was ask the Truth, and He would have told Pilate what’s what. He had the source of all truth in front of him. All he had to do was listen.
But Pilate wasn’t listening. Imagine that! He missed learning at the feet of the Creator of the universe by the width of his ego. He didn’t care about the truth in very much the same way people today ask “What is truth?”
People ask the question but ignore the answer or look for it in the wrong place. They look for it in philosphy, education, entertainment, politics and even relationships. None of these will lead to the truth.
We find the truth in one place. It’s found in God, revealed through His Son, Jesus Christ. Only faith in the sacrifice in the sinless Son of God will satisfy the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom, leading to truth.
So don’t be like Pilate. Don’t miss heaven like he did. Put your trust in Jesus today and find the truth of the universe.
